Maciej Pastuszka, 1970
In my artistic work, I use analog photographic techniques, particularly the 19th-century “wet plate” collodion process. This method is highly demanding, unique, and to some extent unpredictable. It allows for the creation of exceptionally expressive silver images on glass plates, often “enhanced” by a variety of artifacts resulting from a chemical process that has remained unchanged for over 170 years.
I photograph people. I’m fascinated by the creative process and working with the model. My favorite subjects are portraits and nudes, which require deep involvement and mutual trust. My works are therefore a record of the relationship and emotions present during the creation of the image. By using a historical photographic method, I strive to create contemporary images marked by simplicity, capturing emotions and the beauty of the human body clothed in light and shadow.
I run my own photography studio, Atelier Fortuna, located on the Old Town Market Square in Lublin. There, I’ve gathered old large-format photographic equipment that I use daily in my work — a kind of living museum of photography. I participate in photography workshops and competitions, and my works have been featured in several solo and numerous group exhibitions. I also organize photography workshops.
Professionally, I work as a surgeon.
